Textilhafen

Textilhafen is a part of Berlin City Mission (Berliner Stadtmission – BS) and a place where donations are holistically integrated to close the textile cycle: sorting – sales – textile upcycling. Regional textile cycles are the focus here. 882 tonnes of clothing donations were sorted for the clothing store of the Berlin City Mission 2018, providing for around 12,000 needy people. How can the remaining donations be better used? That was the question behind this new concept, because: They want to use the clothing donations in a holistic way and thus use all resources in the best possible way for people in need and our social projects. This means in the implementation at our new location: Transparent textile sorting for BS free clothing stores for homeless and needy people. This is always BS top priority. BS receives many clothing donations that are not suitable for passing on to the clothing store, for example because more clothing is needed there for men than for women. Whatever is left over here, wearable and seasonal, goes to our neighborhood shops of Komm & Sieh. The proceeds go to our charitable projects. Sustainable, holistic use: We offer a sustainable, urban, textile experimental and educational place with sewing machines and a professional loom. Cariety of workshops on textiles and upcycling for all interested parties are offered offer a. For this purpose, up cyclable textile material is used that is damaged or otherwise not suitable for wearing. Example: A large tapestry is made from old T-shirt fabric strips. For this basic idea of the sustainability of textile use, the holistic concept for Textilhafen in Storkower Strasse has not only developed so far, but is constantly evolving: All interested parties are cordially invited to participate in its development and to support us in finding innovative solutions together.

Stop! Micro Waste

STOP! Micro Waste is a non-profit organization initiated by LANGBRETT, a group of surfers and nature lovers. They link education with activities in nature to raise awareness about (micro)plastic pollution. With the STOP! Plastic Academy they share their (micro)plastic knowledge based on our research findings, experiences and scientific papers.Their Train-the-Trainer program enables school children and company representatives to share the acquired knowledge to their colleagues, customers and peers.
Raising awareness about microplastic pollution is fundamental, but at the same time they need hands-on solutions. They develop pragmatic filter solutions, like the Guppyfriend Washing Bag, to educate costumers about microplastic pollution. Thereby, people reflect on their buying- and washing rituals and start changing their behavior.

Geyersbach

GEYERSBACH gives used wood a second life as a unique piece of furniture. The old hallway becomes a stool, the chamber door a bench, the baseboard a shelf. The first impulse of its actions was to produce something useful from waste. From then on he wrote in the morning and built tables in the afternoon. Geyersbach used the appropriate building material on his walks in the neighborhood, after all, the head needs fresh air from time to time. He transported most of the wood with his robust bicycle. It was amazing, whole bundles of planks and fully-grown door leaves could be moved with muscle power. Shortly afterwards, the first tables of the Copenhagen #13 series appeared in the kitchens of the first customers. Soon the cellar became too narrow, and the first areas in a workshop had to be rented. The first own furniture series were created. The range of available furniture and custom-made products became wider: sideboards, side tables, showcases. It was astonishing what could be made from waste.

GS1

GS1 is a part of the European Brands Association (over 85 companies and organisations from the complete packaging value chain), pioneering digital watermarks for smart packaging recycling in the EU (better sorting and higher-quality recycling rates for packaging in the EU, to drive a truly circular economy). Digital watermarks are imperceptible codes, the size of a postage stamp, covering the surface of a consumer goods packaging and they can encode a wide range of attributes such as manufacturer, SKU, type of plastics used and composition for multilayer objects, food vs. non-food usage, etc. The digital watermark can be detected and encoded by a standard high-resolution camera on the sorting line a waste sorting facility, which then – based on the transferred attributes – is able to sort the packaging in corresponding streams. This would result in better and more accurate sorting streams, thus consequently in higher-quality recyclates benefiting the complete packaging value chain.

Plastic Academy they share their (micro)plastic knowledge based on our research findings, experiences and scientific papers. Their Train-the-Trainer program enables school children and company representatives to share the acquired knowledge to their colleagues, customers and peers.
